SecureCloud+ has announced that former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General, the Lord Houghton has been appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective from 1st April 2022.

Commenting on his appointment, General Houghton says: “Since finishing as CDS six years ago, I have become acutely aware of how difficult it is for Defence to both discover and exploit the latest available technology. I have therefore spent much of my time trying to help support Defence innovation. The opportunity to join SecureCloud+ is part of that endeavour, because they have so much to offer – innovation, system integration, agility and the prosecution of warfare in the digital age.”

General Houghton is a retired senior British Army officer and former Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) for the British Armed Forces. Throughout his impressive career, General Houghton held a number of positions within the British Armed Forces including Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion the Green Howard’s, Commander of the 39th Infantry Brigade and Chief of Joint Operations.

General Houghton retired from the forces in 2016 and was appointed as Constable of the Tower of London. Since 2017, General Houghton has served in the House of Lords as a cross bench peer.

Peter Williamson, CEO of SecureCloud+ says: “We are delighted that General Nick will be leading SecureCloud+ as our Chairman. We have experienced exponential growth over the last seven years, and we are confident that General Nick’s wealth of experience in the defence sector will provide the business with leadership and strategic vision to enable us to scale further. We can’t wait to have him on board.”

General Houghton continues: “Only by harnessing the innovative qualities and technological capabilities of small and agile organisations like SecureCloud+ will we achieve our technical ambitions as a nation.  I am hugely looking forward to helping the SecureCloud+ team navigate the strategic environment of Defence and to ensuring their capabilities are properly recognised and exploited.”

General Houghton currently splits his time between the Tower of London and his home in Richmond, North Yorkshire.
