Empowering the Future Through Change and Adaptation

National STEM Week 2025 is celebrating the theme of ‘Change and Adapt’, shining a light on initiatives that inspire innovation, resilience, and leadership in future generations. Among these, the SecureCloud+ Girls’ Festival of Rugby (GFOR) stands out, blending the excitement of rugby with the opportunities of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Now in its seventh year, GFOR continues to evolve, breaking down barriers and encouraging young women to adapt to challenges and step confidently into STEM careers.

Inspiring Change Through Real Stories

The theme of ‘Change and Adapt’ is embodied by Air Specialist 2 Lauren Tester, who first attended GFOR as a youth player in 2022. At the festival, Lauren found a surprising connection between her passions for rugby and STEM. Through conversations with RAF representatives, she realised how teamwork and strategic thinking—skills developed on the rugby field—aligned perfectly with opportunities in STEM. Inspired, she joined the RAF, where she now pursues a career that integrates sport, cutting-edge technology, and global exploration. Lauren’s story shows how GFOR empowers young women to reimagine their futures and thrive in traditionally male-dominated industries.

Adapting for a Brighter Future

GFOR has become a driving force for change, focusing on closing the gender gap in STEM fields like technology and defence. Charli Martin, COO of SecureCloud+ and a former Military Intelligence and Weapons Engineer Officer, highlights the importance of this mission: “Change and adaptability are the foundations of progress. Encouraging young women to break conventions in technology and defence isn’t just about representation; it’s about introducing fresh perspectives and enhancing innovation.”

At the heart of the festival is the STEM Village, an interactive hub that connects education with real-world possibilities. Here, young attendees engage in workshops, live demonstrations, and practical activities that reveal how their skills and interests can translate into impactful careers. Sponsored by SecureCloud+ and supported by partners like the RAF, Telent and MBDA, the STEM Village equips future innovators with knowledge and confidence to shape their key career decisions.

Looking Ahead

With National STEM Week’s theme providing the perfect platform, GFOR is set to grow even further in 2025. Plans to register more SecureCloud+ STEM ambassadors, introduce fresh activities, and build stronger partnerships ensure that the festival continues to inspire adaptability and success.

By encouraging creativity, resilience, and change, the Girls’ Festival of Rugby proves that adaptability unlocks endless possibilities. Whether supporting STEM outreach, mentoring young leaders, or simply sparking someone’s curiosity, everyone can play a part. This National STEM Week, SecureCloud+ invites you to celebrate the power of change and the brighter future it can create for all.
